A while ago, I wrote the popular segment on reaching division 1 the easiest way – by choosing an overpowered four star team. The column received thousands of views worldwide, and 99% of the responses were positive. People started scoring 3-5 goals per match with ease.
However, the naysayers were abundant. There are people who wanted to play against better adversaries than the same old boring Brazilian opponents.
Today we’re going to look at an updated revision. Choosing the BEST 4 1/2 star team (you’ll be pitted against 4, 4 1/2, and 5 star teams. So it’s really a roll of the dice. The team I’ve chosen (since the updated rosters) is the recently improved Paris St. Germain – a team that is comparable to most 5 star teams anyway.
So here we go.
First step: Change formation to a 4-2-3-1. This is my bread & butter formation, and I always look for the team that has players who fit the characteristics to perfection. You essentially need two strong, physical defensive midfielders, fast attacking midfielders on the side, and a striker with good pace. PSG is an ideal candidate.
I’ve tinkered with the various players on PSG (since they have so much depth, you can go in many different directions). And from my experience here are the best starting eleven to deploy in the 4-2-3-1.
GK: Sirigu
RB: Sakho (RELAX, yes, he is out of position – but for a defender he has good pace and you have to keep in mind that most attacks in FIFA come from the wings. He’ll stop them all)
RCB: Lugano
LCB: Alex
LB: Maxwell
RDM: Sissoko
LDM: Motta
RAM: Nene (left footed, use him for curling in shots and crossing with left exclusively)
CAM: Pastore
LAM: Menez
ST: Gameiro
It’s a lineup that’s technical, quick through the middle and on the sides, and has a very formidable back line to help you keep a clean sheet.
Now, when the game starts, go BALANCED (your choice) and set COUNTER ATTACK
If you go up a goal, quickly change to DEFENSIVE and POSSESSION
If you go down a goal, quickly change to OFFENSIVE and TEAM PRESSING
If you suck, there’s not much else I can do for you. But if you want a team that is inexplicably rarely used, and could be compared to some 5 star sides, then Paris St. Germain is a great choice.
Good luck. Leave your comments below and any follow up suggestions after you’ve tried this formation.
Played two games in Division 2 with PSG and got two solid wins. I used to play with Lille when it came to French teams, but they’re losing players now. PSG are solid in ever position and if you focus and play well you have a really good chance of winning. But I find it a little boring playing good football, this is a video game and counter attack gameplay is more fun, so I won’t be using PSG too much. If I’m desperate for a result though I’ll bore myself for 12 minutes to get 3 points.
But yeah thanks for the recommendations, I’ll stick with Spartak for most games because they’re more exciting.
Personally I have plenty of fun with PSG. But we all have our different styles.
Well I finally made it to Division 1, ended up using PSG more than I anticipated. Wasn’t as bad as I made it out to be as won my last game 5-2 to get promoted.

I owe it all to Arsenal, Citeh, Spartak but mainly PSG and TheMilanGuy, thanks lol.
Hey,
your Blog is really fine. I love to play with AC Milan, but i am still searching for the perfect squad, formation and tactic. Can you also suggest something for them? Or wouldn´t you recommend to play with them?
I just hate using 5 star teams because you’re playing against Real Madrid 99% of the time and that team is absolutely ridiculous – even if the user isn’t good the players do everything automatically.
But when I DO play with Milan I do this:
4-2-3-1…. Set offensive/team pressing
GK: Abbiati
RB: Abate
RCB: Silva
LCB: Nesta
LB: Emanuelson
RDM: Boateng
LDM: V.Bommel
RAM: Robinho
CAM: Cassano
LAM: Pato
ST: Ibrahimovic
Great blog, Matteo. Just wondering, but you live in Miami, right? If so, that’s cool, because I am an American that blogs about European Football as well. I have seen your Soccernet blog for Milan as well.
Could you check out my blog, if you can? Possibly recommend it, please? I do think you are an admirable guy, and I could use the “advertisement”.
Interestingly enough, my father actually lived in Milan in the early 70s, working for Fiat. To your demise, he is a Steadfast Interisti. Haha, like I said, Inter(esting)!!!
Marseille is another great choice. Remy has speed up top and diarra and m’bia are top notch dcms
